Geogrids are geosynthetic materials that consist of a uniform surface formed mainly by polyester, polypropylene and / or high-strength polyethylene, presented in an open lattice configuration, joined by a point called a node. That is, they have large openings between the individual ribs in the transverse and longitudinal directions. Geogrids can be manufactured for uniaxial or biaxial priority reinforcement, regardless of their geometric configuration.


Some of the applications of geogrids are: soil reinforcement, steep slopes (vegetated and enveloped face), permanent and temporary walls, segmented retaining walls, erosion protection in vegetated slopes and enveloped face, gap bridging, reinforcement of coatings, construction, stabilization and reinforcement of roads and railways, paved roads, construction of supply roads, reinforcement of foundations, work platforms on soft foundation soils and secondary reinforcement in soil containment structures.



The geosynthetic material acts by preventing the movement or lateral displacement of materials, either by friction or mechanical interlocking mechanisms depending on their coefficient of interaction. 


The geosynthetic increases the bearing capacity of the land, acts in conjunction with the structural soil to produce a compound or "geo-soil", which works under tension and improves the resistance and deformation properties of the soil.
